Wheels Up - Off to California

The day has arrived folks! With only hours hours left before Ralph and I leave Jersey and begin our flight to California for our cross-country bike trip, I couldn't be more thrilled to leave it all behind for five weeks and just focus on the road.

These past few days have been so busy, it's hard to focus on when one day ends and the next begins. From carefully choosing the right ratio of clothes to food to stuff in our bags (what does someone pack on a 5 week journey like this?) to getting our bikes ready for shipping, we have been going full speed off the bike even as our training continues to taper off.

I officially stopped my training rides on Monday after my last spin class. It's been a great experience having somewhere to train that wasn't my basement. Over these past few months I have been fortunate enough to have gotten to know some of the people who frequent the gym as much as me who've taken an interest in Ralph and I's journey across the country. It will be an exciting opportunity to share my story with them as we bike our way back to the East Coast. Although I will be sad to leave everyone from the gym, I am looking forward to making new friends while on the road.

There have been so many thoughts and emotions running through my head during these past few days. Excitement and anticipation, sprinkled with a little bit of nervousness and anxiety. After all, this is not just any bike ride, it is the bike ride. But I know that as long as I keep a steady pace and a level head Ralph and I will get through it together.

I still have some packing to do, but I'll be sure to come back with a full report of my day as we put the last minute touches on our packing. Until next time.
