Day 11 - Dalhart to Liberal
Greetings from Liberal, Kansas folks! So today was a lazy day I won't lie. As I mentioned in my previous post, we had to cancel today's ride due to safety concerns with Winter Storm Achilles blowing through. The morning was spent loading our equipment and luggage into the support vans and hauling everything to the next stop.
But I'm not complaining. A day off the bike might have been just what the doctor ordered.
After the unbelievably harsh conditions of yesterday, I woke up with my eyes literally glued together as all the sand and grit from the previous afternoon worked its way out. My legs and lower back were in knots, and it was hard to move around. Usually I wake up from a ride feeling pretty limber and refreshed after a good nights sleep. As we settled into our new home, my dad and I spent most of the afternoon relaxing and preparing ourselves for tomorrow's ride.
There was a jacuzzi in the motel, so Ralph and I spent some time soaking in the warm water while chatting about life and how the ride has been going so far. We both agreed that pulling out of yesterday's ride was the smart thing to do, and that pushing too hard at this stage would have been more damaging than anything else.
Probably one of the most interesting things that we did today was pass by a Wizard of Oz museum, we are most definitely in Kansas now folks.
Check us out tomorrow morning as my dad and I share a video on our thoughts about the upcoming ride and how we've done so far with the journey. I know that I said that we would be posting a video today, but I thought having it up bright and early would be a great way to get back into the swing of things as we saddle up for another eight days of riding.
Until next time.
